In Chan, we are told to “Let go” yet “Pay attention,” “Don’t attach to wandering thoughts” yet “Know clearly what arises in your mind.” How do we maintain clarity without attaching to characteristics? It is easier said than done.

Do Chan teachings tell us to not think or use our intelligence? Does “No-thought” mean that we shouldn’t have thoughts? Does practicing Chan make us mentally slow and unresponsive? In this Dharma talk, we’ll address these misconceptions, and elaborate on the meaning of these three “No’s” and how to use them in daily life.

We will discuss how to integrate green-living in our lives by applying the concepts and methods of Chan practice.

This series of lectures will introduce the 12 important questions asked in the sutra, together with Master Sheng-Yen’s commentary in his book, “Complete Enlightenment,” which tells many stories and experiences personally encountered by Master Sheng Yen during his Chan teachings.
